It would be good to remember that our League plays a pioneering role, indeed, it’s the only such model in America. We can be proud of it. Of course, since we are pioneers, everything remains to be done. It is certain that its the collaboration and comprehension of all that will make it a success.

The Quebec Poker Tournament League will offer free and legal competitive poker everywhere in the province of Quebec. 2007-09-21
L’Association des joueurs de tournois de poker du Québec and the Corporation des propriétaires de bars, brasseries et tavernes du Québec are happy to announce the launch of the new Quebec Poker Tournament League (LTPQ), a competitive Texas Hold’Em circuit, legal and completely free for the participants.
Today, Quebec, like all of North America, is hit by the wave that is Texas Hold’Em and this fad keeps growing. Right now, some of our clients are already playing, whether at home or some other place. The creation of this league will give them the opportunity to meet other people and measure their ability against new players, outside of their original circle.
«As a professional player representing Quebec on the international scene for more than 15 years, I want my fellow players to share my passion in a pleasant, professional and fair way.» said André Boyer, AJTPQ president and WSOP bracelet winner. The LTPQ will allow all Quebecers to improve their poker game and win interesting prizes without having to risk any money.
The LTPQ, whose activities are scheduled to start during the first week of October, foresees offering poker in Quebec’s 125 districts. More than 150 establishments already showed interest in accommodating the league’s activities and thousands of Quebecers have shown an interest in participating.
«We hope that more than 200 of our members will offer to host the LTPQ’s tournaments, commented Renaud Poulin, president of the CPBBTQ. Quebec’s bars and restaurants, by their vocation and their clientele, are ideal places to develop this type of activity.»
In the past, the bar scene has been the instigator of similar entertainment type activities. Billiards, darts and even some card games have been the vector of many a league that entertained clients throughout Quebec. Similar poker leagues are currently having considerable success in many countries like England, Australia and some American States.
The launch of the Quebec Poker Tournament League couldn’t come at a better time, the industry having suffered from the after effects of the Tobacco Law introduction. By creating such an activity, it will give the bar owners a tool to reconquer their lost clientele..
To make sure their customers benefit from a world class poker experience, the LTPQ enrolled the services of Gestion Poker Tour (GPT), a leader in the organization of poker events in Quebec.
More than 250 000$ and exclusive scoring system
The LTPQ foresees offering, as early as its first season, prizes adding up to $250,000 as well as give its best players the chance to rub elbows with the world’s greatest by sponsoring them to participate in international poker events such as the World Series of Poker and the World Poker Tour or other major tournaments that will eventually be organized in Quebec’s casinos.
These players will be chosen thanks to the LTPQ’s exclusive scoring system which will allow them to accumulate points throughout the year, points which will insure their qualification in a multitude of local, regional and provincial game finals.
To protect the licensed establishments from any legal pursuits and to insure that this project respects federal and provincial gaming laws, we have sent the rules and regulations of the League to the Minister of Justice and Public Security. Furthermore, each registered establishment will be bound to respect the rules of the League and, in no case, demand money from an individual to participate in the tournaments.
